Wellness Wednesday with Kåna by Kia

Q. What inspired you to start Kåna?

A. I have my degree in political science with a focus on indigenous politics, but health and fitness has always been my passion. After completing my degree, I got my personal trainer certification and I found so many intersections between the two and specifically, the connection between indigenous health and politics. I realize “politics” itself is a space that isn’t very inviting to a general population, so I wanted to create something that aligns the two in a way that resonates with everyone. It’s hard to keep this answer short, but basically I started Kåna because I wanted to show people, especially indigenous people, their power, how to harness it, and how fitness can serve as a space for that.

Q. What is Kåna’s Mission?

A. Kåna is an initiative that will inspire and guide people in the daily pursuit of their potential, optimal health, and independence in every aspect of their lives. This is my mission because I believe that most issues that seem to physically and mentally confine people here, whether it be chronic lifestyle diseases, depression, intergenerational trauma, etc., can be confronted by realizing our own power and abilities and health and fitness is a great avenue for that.

Q. What products do you offer?

A. The KÅNA by Kia app is basically a super user friendly app that allows me to train you virtually. Right now, i’m running an 8 week program so you get a full 8 weeks of workouts, designed by me, with demo videos, reps, timers, all you have to do is follow it day by day. You also get access to private messaging if you need any help or guidance from me. You can get more info and sign up for the app on my website, kanabykia.com

Q. How does the app work?

A. It’s subscription based, so you can start your first month for just $1 and after that its $14.99 and you’ll get unlimited access to all my programs, workouts, insights, etc.

Q. What’s your wellness motto right now?

A. The body can’t achieve what the mind doesn’t believe.
